A Hot Interview with our Partner HAB Sauce

Whenever the opportunity presents itself to team up with another Portland-based business, we’re always up for it.

That’s exactly how our partnership with HAB Sauce came to be in our recent Holy Habanero cider release - our Head Cidermaker Deron was experimenting with spicy ciders and he remembered his love of the company’s Sauce Lord hot sauce. After meeting David, HAB Sauce’s owner and maker, at our BIPOC Pop-up Market last summer at the Portland Cider Co. Clackamas Pub, we knew he would make an incredible partner for our next cider with a side of heat.

The two makers put their heads together and came up with several spice-ilicious cider beta batches, but kept coming back to the one that started it all - Sauce Lord in cider form. An off-dry cider infused with fresh habanero, ginger, Jacobsen Salt. Co. honey, and a touch of carrot juice. All the same ingredients in the iconic hot sauce, with one important addition - Northwest apples!

HAB Sauces has been a Portland hot sauce favorite since 2016, crafting flavorful, adventurous, and unique sauces for a variety of cuisines. Well known for its artistic labels and creativity, the company uses only the freshest ingredients.

A family operation at its roots - just like us - David started making hot sauces when his daughter was born and he took on the “stay at home dad” title. Family is an important aspect of the business, with his wife, brother, and other members involved in every step.

With so many common values, our partnership with HAB Sauces has been fruitful, to say the least. You can taste the result yourself in every can or pint of Holy Habanero, now available throughout Oregon & Washington in our small batch series.

Learn more about David, HAB Sauces, and his delicious line-up of hot sauces in our Hot Ones-inspired interview, where he and Deron take on a plate of wings and six sauces ranging from subtle to spicy.
