Portland's Top Holiday Traditions

‘Tis the season for magic and merriment, and there’s no shortage of it in Rose City! We asked our Portland Cider Co. crew for their favorite holiday traditions, to compile our Top Hits list of Portland Holiday Traditions. Paired with a Portland Cider Co. beverage, of course 😉 Enjoy!

Santa Clones

Giving those wonderfully weird Portland vibes, Savanna Slaughter, our Marketing & Events Coordinator, suggests pairing our Santa’s Sauce cider with decoding the clues to find Santa Clones in PDX. A festively fun art installment by Chris Willis, the location changes every year to see a sea of Santa’s aglow.

ZooLights

You can’t think of Portland without the Oregon Zoo and their annual lights display is one you can’t miss! Grab a can of Kinda Dry or Prickly Punch cider while you’re there.

Santa Clones

Christmas Ships

A Northwest tradition, with a fleet of ships decked out in their holiday best to sail down the Willamette or Columbia River. “The sparkling lights make me think of True Brut!” says Jodi Campbell, our Portland-area sales rep.

The Grotto

Another beguiling light display, The Grotto is quintessentially holiday, with carolers and school choirs, donuts, and hot cocoa. “Cranberry Mule is my go-to cider for the season, just like taking the kids here every year,” says Jared Moe, our VP of Sales.

Pioneer Courthouse Square

Portland’s living room boasts a 75-foot Douglas Fir tree, the epicenter of the city. The Square PDX hosts several holiday events throughout December. Cole, our Westside Pub manager, says it’s his favorite thing in Portland this season and Imperial Peach Tea is his favorite cider.

Peacock Lane

One of the most visited Portland streets, Peacock Lane residents put together an impressive display of Christmas lights. A tradition going back decades, it’s a Portland classic, just like our Kinda Dry cider! “My wife and I take the kids to Peacock Lane every year, grabbing a pint of Kinda Dry nearby beforehand,” says Chad Hensley, our Westside sales rep.

Winter Wonderland

Portland International Raceway (PIR) hosts an incredible light display - Tiffaney’s favorite one in Portland to be exact! Our chaos coordinator at Clackamas, she recommends pairing this outing with our Original Gold cider, best served warmed and spiced up for your own Hot Mulled Cider at home (a taproom favorite this time of year!).

Peacock Lane

Ice Skating

What’s more festive than an outing on the rink? Silverton ups the ante with their annual Christmas Market at the Oregon Gardens. Christmas lights twinkle bright, with festive drinks and eats to pair with your skating. Helen Lewis, our Marketing Director, recommends pairing this outing with Imperial Abbey Apple - “it’s juicy & bright to leave you feeling merry all night long.”

Looking for something closer to Portland? Prosper Portland is opening up a Winter Ice Rink on December 16, open for a limited time!

Portland Cider Co. Wassail Holiday Party

Last, but certainly not least, owners Jeff & Lynda invite you to our favorite tradition of the year - our annual Wassail Holiday Party! A yuletide toast to the Northwest apple orchards to ensure a bountiful harvest next year, we partner with the Portland Revels to present live music, Morris dancing, pub songs, and more at our Clackamas Pub. Happening December 9, 2023 from 5-9pm at our Clackamas Pub.
